New to Us

Not too long ago, I had a moment where I realized I just couldn't drive my old minivan one more moment. So, I traded it in for a new-to-us used car. My old car didn't have a name, but we decided the new ride needed a name and, after some debate, settled on Perdita. We thought it meant "pretty little one" in Spanish. It actually means "lost" in Latin. The name has stuck.

One of Perdita's charming features is that she can take off her top. Sort of. She's not a convertible, but she has a sunroof, which we have been enjoying as much as possible. We've never had one before and it's been a learning experience. Chloe told me that as I was driving and closing the sunroof one day, she saw my hair flying around and up as the sunroof began to close and she wondered if my hair would get caught. She told me this after I closed it. I asked her at what point she might have said something to me -- would it be when I began to be pulled upward out of the driver's seat or when I screamed or when I just no longer had any hair attached to the front of my head? (My hair didn't get caught, thanks to physics, not any warnings from passengers.)

Another time, I left Chase in the car while I ran a quick errand (it was a really quick one!), but while I was in the store, I could hear a sudden downpour on the roof and bolted for the car -- since the sunroof and windows were open. I found Chase standing on his seat, hunched over and blocking the rain coming in the sunroof with his body. I guess it's a rainroof, too.
